Billy Larkin began playing piano at the age of five and by age eight was studying piano, music theory and composition at the Preparatory Department of the College Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. He continued his studies there, finally being awarded a full-tuition Honors scholarship in composition at CCM.
While living in New York City he served as music director for many cabaret artists and wrote music for the modern dance company and worked with his first wife Cheryl Wallace - a well-known choreographer. Together, they started the non-profit organization Stone Street Foundation for the Arts which received numerous grants from the Ohio Arts Council and The National Endowment for the Arts. They collaborated in the production of very large scale original productions featuring dance and live music.
Billy has worked with bassist/composer Chris Dahlgren in the contemporary jazz group, 'Ekimi'. Their classic Christmas recording “The Next Noel” was distributed by the Music West company.
Most recently he has been working with vocalist and percussionist Eugene Goss in their band TRIAGE-a global jazz pop fusion ensemble. Billy Larkin has performed his music around the world, including two trips to Russia. He has written music for film, video and commercials and produced a number of recordings for other artists. His most recent project is a full-scale Broadway style musical based on a popular children's book.
In 2007, Billy began another significant and profound musical journey - in becoming the Music Director at The Center For Spiritual Living (then known as Beacon of Life). Having been a seeker for most of his life and having passed through various denominations and teachings he had found a new home for his creative and spiritual development.
"I have always felt a spiritual connection with my compositions. Where did my creative impulses come from? I am so blessed to have been born into a fuller realization of that connection through my work as a music director for a spiritual institution. There is nothing more rewarding than helping other people find spiritual connection through music. I love finding the spirit inside the secular, love being a vehicle for melodies that stay with you and remind you of the deeper truth of our existence. I am very honored and humbled to continue this all important mission with the New Thought Unity Center."
Larkin is planning on releasing a full length CD of original spiritual music, encompassing a wide range of styles and emotions. It is his hope to publish this material as well and share it with the global spiritual community.
"I am looking forward to hearing the songs I have yet to discover and being an integral part of our shared spiritual adventure".
God is Love. Love is Music. Music is Love. Love is God." - Billy Larkin
